Two papers at the ESD Conference in Zagreb
International scientific conference Economic and Social Development “Building Resilient Society” was held in Zagreb (Croatia) on 9 and 10 December 2016. It was of interdisciplinary nature and included both economic and legal issues. Project team members presented two papers, which were published in the proceedings of the conference.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Mihaela Braut Filipović, Dr. Morana Derenčinović Ruk and Nikolina Grković presented the paper „Alternative investment funds and their role in portfolio companies – state of art in Croatian law and practice“. In this paper, the authors analysed the position of alternative investment funds in the companies in which they invest, i.e. in the portfolio companies. The main research question was whether Croatian alternative investment funds act as active shareholders/unitholders, and if their influence on the portfolio company is perceived as positive or negative.
The other paper titled “Consumer protection issues in crowdfunding” was authored by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda and Dr. Danijela Vrbljanac. The analysis focused on identifying which party to the legal relationships in different crowdfunding models may be qualified as consumer. The importance of such qualification lays in the fact that consumer is entitled to special substantive and procedural law protection under European Union legal instruments, which are implemented in the Croatian law as well.
