Conference on competition law
On April 9 and 10, 2015, the 4th Petar Šarčević international scientific conference “EU Competition and State Aid Rules: interaction between public and private enforcement” organized by the Croatian Comparative Law Association, Institute for the European and Comparative Law of the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka, the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, the Jean Monnet Inter-University Centre of Excellence Opatija, the Croatian Competition Agency and the Judicial Academy was held in the Hotel Lone, in Rovinj (Croatia). Many foreign and domestic experts acted as speakers at the conference including the President of the General Court of the EU, Marc Jaeger, three Judges of the General Court of the EU, Vesna Tomljenović, Miro Prek and Viktor Kreuschitz, and the President of the Croatian Competition Agency, Mladen Cerovac.
Several members of the Project Team actively participated in organisation of the conference. Three members of the Project Team presented their papers at the conference. Principal Investigator, Prof. Dr. Edita Čulinović-Herc held a presentation, along with Marijana Liszt, attorney at the Law Office Posavec, Rašica & Liszt and consultant at this project, on the subject of state aid to services of general economic interest in the Republic of Croatia. In her presentation, Assist. Prof. Dr. Vlatka Butorac Malnar dealt with issues that arise in connection with actions for damages caused by the “umbrella effect”, while Assist. Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda focused on the law applicable in antitrust litigation. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nataša Žunić-Kovačević, Dr. Mihaela Braut Filipović, Stjepan Gadžo, Danijela Vrbljanac and Nikolina Grković also participated at the conference. The participation of the Project Team members at the conference was supported from the project budget.
By participating and this conference, which brought together about a hundred participants, members of the Project Team had an opportunity to present their views on the topics that make important features of this project and learn of the latest developments in the legislation and case law in the field of competition and state aid.
